Workshops and Presentations
In sacred space, we can suffer and transcend our suffering. ~ Gita Baack
Generations of trauma world-wide has left its mark on subsequent generations throughout history. It is time to stop the perpetuation of trauma, racism and violence to inheritors from all sides: victims, perpetrators, collaborators, bystanders, rescuers, etc. The first step is to know that your sense of an unrelenting sadness, loss, absence, outrage, betrayal, shame, or guilt are valid.
If you are Jewish, Black, Indigenous, a minority or out of the norm in any way; or if your family has suffered from war, displacement, economic hardships, educational inequity, environmental catastrophes or other devastating events and difficulties of life — you have inherited trauma and it is real.
I also work in the belief that while we suffer from Inherited trauma, we are also compassionate and resilient. Both merit attention. I help you find your resilience, strengths and possibilities to live a whole and joyful life. Each of my workshops, talks, and interventions are uniquely designed based on one:one discussions with you.
Presentations, Webinars and Workshops
I have been invited to talk about Inherited trauma from different perspectives for various audiences including: peace leaders; educators, therapists/counsellors, 2nd and 3rd generations.
Topics include: Impacts of Racism, Genocide and Holocausts; Leading Dialogues with People Haunted by Trauma; Knowing the Unknowns; Moving Forward from Generational Trauma, Talking about the Holocaust with Secondary School students, Relational Research, etc.
Appreciation from a Small Group Workshop
Thank you for guiding us with such care and wisdom in our three day Second Generation workshops journey. What a rewarding experience! We laughed, wrote poetry, made collages and most importantly, we shared some or our deeply held experiences growing up in a survivor home. You managed to create a safe space place and were able to motivate each of us to delve into pasts in different ways and find our resilience, strength and courage. ~ 2nd Generation Network, Vancouver, B.C.
Poetry Writing Workshops and Presentations
Poetry writing for Inheritors of trauma is a way of mining the depths of emotions, thoughts, and perhaps memories, known, unknown that are not accessible through in thought, talk therapy or other modes of therapy. Writing poetry can also be a practice, like meditation, to help you find a space for calm and transcend suffering and confusion. The poems that emerge are usually honest, deep, and clarifying for the writer and interestingly, as with all art, can also provide insights for the reader.
Appreciation from a Poetry Writing Webinar
"Wow, the poems are all so beautiful, my heart is touched reading and feeling us. What a gift ... exploring, playing, creating and Being together." ~ Anonymous
Individual and Small Group Counselling
"We are a cohort that together, fly better with two wings instead of one."
Our inherited and life stories are often both conscious and unconscious. I use a variety of techniques to unpack and release the traumatic feelings and dysfunctional coping strategies. I believe that there is no 'one size that fits all" type of cures when it comes to this complex and universal issue and so I do not provide any prescriptive 1-2-3 step solutions. It is your story and it is your process. Together we will unpack your layers of trauma and unpack the patterns that don't serve you. We will find new ways to show up in the world! Also and Importantly, I help you to tap into the incredible resilience that you have but may not acknowledge or may not be using to your optimum, especially when you need it most.

SPECIAL REQUEST - DO YOU HAVE AN INHERITED MEMORY, A KNOWING OF SOMETHING THAT CAN'T BE KNOWN?
Inheriting generations are missing much of their story for many reasons. They might be missing information because the family didn't want to share or couldn't speak about, the past. There may have been historical and/or political reframing of history, because of destruction of documents, culture and even language, or because there was noone to tell after a holocaust or a genocide. What is interesting to me is that despite all this, we carry embodied memory that people might not be aware of consciously, but can access. For example, I have heard from an Indigenous person of a felt memory where she experienced in detail being at the Wounded Knee Massacre of 1890. Or from someone who was a twin and wasn't told about it, but since childhood, would cry on her birthday. I would say that is a felt loss.
I would love to hear from anyone with a story of having a felt memory or a felt sense that can't be explained. Large or small stories - we can explore them together.
